Am 10. Juli er\u00f6ffnen wir die Ausstellung Jamel Shabazz. New York Moves and Black Communities<\/em>, die in Kooperation mit dem Kunsthaus N\u00fcrnberg und durch Unterst\u00fctzung der Galerie Bene Taschen, K\u00f6ln entstanden ist.<\/p>\n

In Brooklyn geboren und aufgewachsen, begann Jamel Shabazz (*1960) in den sp\u00e4ten 1970er Jahren, Menschen zu fotografieren, denen er auf den Stra\u00dfen New Yorks begegnete. Seither dokumentiert er mit seinen unmittelbar kommunizierenden und gleichzeitig sensiblen Portr\u00e4ts die Menschen der dortigen Black und Latinx Communities und ihrer Lebensmomente. In Deutschland wird das Werk des Fotografen zum ersten Mal im Museumskontext pr\u00e4sentiert.<\/p>\n

Zusammen mit der Er\u00f6ffnung feiern wir unser j\u00e4hrliches \u00f6ffentliches Sommerfest mit Buffet, Bar und Live-Musik im Garten. Karle Bardowicks (Saxophon) und Lars Bernsmann (Gitarre) improvisieren Bossa Nova und Jazzstandards.<\/p>\n

Die Stadt New York, in der Jamel Shabazz 1960 geboren wurde, war schon der Schauplatz vieler sozialer und kultureller Bewegungen: der Harlem Renaissance <\/em>und des Black Arts Movement \u2013 <\/em>und ab den 1970er Jahren auch des HipHop.<\/p>\n

Der Vortrag von Lukas Helling befasst sich mit sozio\u00f6konomischen Bedingungen dieses urbanen Raums, der der Geburtsort des HipHop ist. Der kulturelle Einfluss von Musik, Fashion und Tanz wurde auch visuell im New Yorker Stadtbild sichtbar und wurde ma\u00dfgeblich von den Black Communities gepr\u00e4gt. Shabazz zog mit seiner Kamera durch die Stra\u00dfen von Brooklyn und den \u00fcbrigen Boroughs, um die Menschen in stolzer Weise festzuhalten und mit seinem fotografischen Werk einen unverwechselbaren Stil der dokumentarischen Street Photography zu schaffen.<\/p>\n
