A public guided tour of the current exhibition takes place on Sundays. The tour is included in the admission price. Registration is not required.

8th Regional Music Festival

Saturday, September 12, 2026 | 12-6 pm, with various ensembles in the museum garden

After stops in Salzgitter-Salder, Gifhorn, Schöningen, Peine, Goslar, and Wolfsburg, the Regional Music Festival returns to Braunschweig. 2.000 musicians, 160 concerts, 21 venues – one of them in the garden of the Museum of Photography. On September 12, 2026, Braunschweig will be transformed into a giant stage for musical performances of all kinds and genres. From classical to pop, rock, metal, rap, jazz, blues, and swing, from solo performances to large choirs or big bands, all styles and forms of music will be represented. Admission is free.

Culture mile

For the fifth time, five cultural institutions are joining forces: The Braunschweig State Theatre, the Municipal Music School (Magnitorwall branch), the Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum, the Museum of Photography Braunschweig, and the Braunschweig Municipal Museum / Haus am Löwenwall cordially invite you to this year's Culture Mile! Running parallel to the theatre festival (season opening), the Culture Mile offers a diverse indoor and outdoor program for all generations.

Gordon Parks and Jamel Shabazz – Traditions of socially engaged photography

Sunday, September 13, 2026 | 5 p.m., with Barbara Hofmann-Johnson, Director and Curator, Museum of Photography Braunschweig

Gordon Parks is one of Jamel Shabazz's key role models, who, with his sensitive and empathetic portraits, aims to offer a counter-narrative to the negative, often criminalizing image of Black communities. In her lecture, Barbara Hofmann-Johnson, museum director and curator of the exhibition "Jamel Shabazz: New York Moves and Black Communities," highlights the traditions of socially engaged photography, with a particular focus on the connections between Parks and Shabazz. Jamel Shabazz received the Gordon Parks Foundation Award in 2018 , followed by the Gordon Parks Foundation/Steidl Book Prize in 2022.
