The group exhibition ‘True Pictures? From Document to Concept. Positions of Contemporary Photography from the USA’ at the Museum für Photographie Braunschweig represents the first part of an exhibition series, which, from September 2021 to April 2022, in cooperation with the Sprengel Museum Hannover and the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, will present a comprehensive overview of aspects and concepts of contemporary artistic photography from Canada and the USA.
The Museum of Photography Braunschweig is showing works by Erica Baum, Owen Gump, Ingeborg Gerdes, Rebecca Hackemann, and Ketuta Alexi-Meskhishvili. These works reveal connections to important artistic developments in 20th-century North American photography, leading to new content and individual visual languages in the 21st century.
The unique spatial situation of the Museum of Photography Braunschweig, whose exhibition rooms are located in two opposing former gatehouses, is taken into account in relation to the content-related and conceptual groupings as a possibility to present the content in a dialogical manner.
