With diverse series of works and thematic juxtapositions, the exhibition presents for the first time in a German museum the complex photographic work of Swiss artist Alex Hanimann (born 1955, lives in St. Gallen) from recent years. Photography, and occasionally film projects, constitute an important segment of Alex Hanimann's oeuvre and often interact with his painting and sculpture. He has also created works for public spaces in recent years.

Alex Hanimann belongs to a generation of artists who conceptually combine diverse media. Text, language, image, image staging, and image references to the multifaceted use of the photographic image in our culture appear with varying thematic focuses as large-format tableaux, serially, or even as illuminated images. References to external reality, urban or natural spaces, as well as spaceless stagings and allegorical portraits and studies of the human form, are important themes for the Swiss artist.
